Welcome To the Macintosh
section of the Support Site.
Netscape
- If this happens while trying to run Netscape,
or while on-line with Netscape, one of two things may happen.
- If there isn’t enough memory to run
Netscape at all, the program will never open.
- If there isn’t enough memory for Netscape
to run properly, it may work periodically and other times may
freeze the computer.
- Determine the amount of Total Memory on
the Macintosh and then determine the amount of Available Memory
on the Macintosh.
- Determine the Minimum memory size
Netscape is asking for, and the Preferred size Netscape has
set.
- The Minimum and Preferred size in Netscape
CANNOT be set higher than the Macintosh’s Available memory. The Preferred
size of Netscape should be set at least 500 below the Macintosh’s
total Available size, and the Minimum size of Netscape should
be set at least 500 below the set Preferred size.
- Netscape requires a minimum size of about
3000k just to function. This is ACTUAL memory and cannot be
simulated by adding Virtual Memory or a RAM Doubler.
- If the Macintosh does not have the bare
minimum memory requirements to run, there is very little chance
of using Netscape. Normally, a Macintosh with less than 8 Megs of
RAM will not run Netscape properly.
- Restart the Macintosh and run Netscape
again to see if this fixes the problem
